Do you rely on Google search for traffic?
For me, marketing is anything you do on Facebook or forums to drive direct traffic. You can easily identify your target audience and make posts where they are online such as at a Facebook group. This will result in traffic to your pages or site.

With SEO, it's pretty much random as to whether or not you will get a listing in Google search for the keywords you are targeting or even if that will result in traffic.

Yes I do. I’ve been doing SEO for several years now. I have a good understanding of it. But, the traffic sources you also mentioned are important. I don’t think there’s such a thing as bad traffic. As long as they came to your site willingly.

You have to have multiple avenues for traffic to flow to your website. Organic SEO is hard if you're not familiar with how to get it right. There are many forums and other avenues that you can use to grow your audience.
